On an extremely 'tight' 178m² site on the East side of the Cape Town CBD a new six storey 700m² retail/office building was both designed and project-managed to completion by KMA to become the new offices for the practice. Structurally an interesting combination of both reinforced concrete and perimeter steel girders the building clearly expresses its various spaces, volumes and functions on the two prominent street facades with full height hi-tech frameless glazing to the Retail area contrasting with aluminium framed units elsewhere.
With a crisp and expressive form providing naturally well lit and ventilated work spaces each enjoying double volume features and a spectacular shared entertainment roof deck complete with "putting green" this 'small' building has a presence that has made it a contemporary landmark in its area. |
