Fountain Shopping Centre: Rondebosch
A late 50's labyrinthine Shopping Centre was completely remodelled in a crisply Modernist style to maximize available lettable space and to breathe new life and a slowly dwindling suburban commercial zone. A new major Gym Tenant was accommodated on the extended upper level while the existing arcade was redesigned to draw 'feet' through it with a skylit central access double volume space providing a drawcard for passers-by.
Difficult level changes and major structural challenges had to be resolved making this project both complex and exciting. The retail portion of the centre was also remodeled and new tenancy's accommodated including a late night Café/Deli which opens onto the revitalized Belmont Corner and Flower Sellers precinct which was upgraded to the benefit of the community in close co-operation with the Stakeholders and Local Authority (In association with Metropolis).
